Calcutta, Home of Hope

“Calcutta, Home of Hope” was founded in Calcutta/Kolkata by Joseph Das in 1999.  His purpose was to set up a place to take care of the dying destitute found on the streets.

Das first served as a 12 year member of the Missionaries of Charity Brothers, an organization founded by Mother Teresa, setting up homes for the destitute all over the country.  He served in a senior position working closely with Mother Teresa.  In 1999, after Mother Teresa passed away Calcutta, Home of Hope (Ashabari) was founded.

Few people found in the streets actually improve with the right medications provided.  Most of those people are left with significant challenges and need continuous medical attention.  There is a constant effort to locate the families of those who have recovered, in both mind and body, in the hopes that they can be reunited with their families.

The reality, however, is that many of those efforts don’t pay off and the sick and impoverished are left to be taken care of by Das’s organization.

This tireless effort requires finances.  Calcutta Home of Hope (Ashabari) is registered as an NGO, and runs on Philanthropy.  A number of local doctors volunteer their time but many expenses are not covered by donations.  Expenses like Food, Medication, Electricity etc. are daily concerns.

This organization spends approximately $100.00 a day for food, $100.00 a day for medication and $50.00 a day for electricity and other misc. expenses.  Because all of the staff volunteers their time, there are no labor expenses.

With your help, Bloemen Trends hopes to cover most of those expenses.
